A True Heart

The bottom line in the faith of Christ followers is that Jesus paid it all. We don’t clean ourselves up and then come to Him for redemption. We are welcome just as we are. Needy, broken, shamed, vile, or just messed up. His atoning blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Jesus Christ, alone, makes us clean and righteous to stand before a righteous God. He was sinless and became the sacrifice required to cover our sins. We simply and wholly accept Him as the Son of God who took the sin of the world on Himself. We believe with our minds and hearts and make Him Lord of our lives. We become a new creation in Christ.

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Our purity of heart must rest in Jesus’ qualifications and character. His works qualify us. Our assurance is based on His righteousness. The Word says that our righteousness is as filthy rags. We cannot work to earn our salvation, or to qualify for salvation. It is only in Him, His sacrifice, His atonement, His blood, His covering and His cleansing. He wipes the slate clean when we come to Him in simple and sincere faith.

Ephesians 5:25, 26 Christ also loved the church and gave himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.

I get really upset when anyone tries to add to the requirements for salvation, or worse, to help us hold on to our salvation. If we have a true heart when we accept Jesus as Lord, coming in simple faith, we will be changed. Then we live a life of sanctification, not perfection, but set apart for God’s purposes, learning about who we are in Christ and living out His will for our lives. Learning, becoming, changing, being transformed continually by the renewing of our minds. This will include messing up, confessing, and repenting, turning back to the right path. He will be faithful to lead us. We learn how to listen for His voice, to follow, to ask for forgiveness with sincerity, to seek His will, to forgive and love others by His example. The Holy Spirit lives in us and teaches us as we read and study the living Word, listening and obeying His prompting and instruction.

Praise Him and thank Him for His great sacrifice and provision! He is enough! In His care, Bebe
