When I Can’t See with My Eyes

We have lived, for over two years, as a nation being unable to see with our physical eyes what is really happening. We are told it’s this way unless it’s not. We are lied to on so many fronts that it is difficult to know who is telling the truth. We are surrounded by our natural senses, sight, hearing, feelings, and limited understanding. But through it all we have the truth of God’s Word. Our grounding must begin there and block out whatever does not come into alignment with the Bible. Scripture tells us to “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” Jesus Christ is the Word. We must read and listen and seek understanding; we must know Him! The Holy Spirit will lead us, and we are assured we have been given ears to hear and eyes to see. We must listen with discernment and understanding of what God’s Word declares.

This year has been a series of personal situations that have required trust over and beyond what I see, hear, or feel. My husband has been hospitalized several times this year and many obstacles stood before us. I have had my own physical issues and following Covid I came down with a very severe case of Shingles. I have experienced indescribable pain, from stomach punches, stabs to the back, torturous, unrelenting, burning nerve pain, and sleeplessness to the point of exhaustion. The extreme pain lasted for five or six weeks, and then lessened somewhat with bouts of shocks, punches, and stabs for another couple weeks. Burning remains, but I am finally recovering and beginning to see evidence of what I have prayed for and believed for; it seems a slow process.

One positive thing about being an older believer in Christ Jesus is the extensive list of personal experiences of God’s love, truth, intervention, and help in time of need. He is, indeed, our Savior, Healer, Shepherd, Provider, Counselor, and Comforter. He has proven Himself and His Word over and over in my life. However, there are times in our lives we can see no evidence of that for which we are believing. Every fiber of our being is screaming out for relief, but physical relief doesn’t come. We believe God will provide strength for the number of our days, but our physical strength cries out, “I can’t.” We know, believe, and receive Christ’s provision of healing for our bodies through the stripes He bore, but the circumstances before us don’t reveal change, not with our physical eyes.

I understand this. I have learned through my life to persevere. And so, now in our own personal struggles, as well as a nation in turmoil, we must persevere together. Our struggles differ from one another. Many have trials greater than mine, but the truth remains the same, God is perfect in all His ways. He is always good. He is faithful and true. He never fails. Scripture affirms nothing can separate us from His love. The Word also admonishes us to build ourselves up in the faith.

Reread the stories of faith in the Bible. Remember what the Lord has done in your life. Speak out loud what you believe and what you are expecting because of God’s Word, not because of anything else. Not because of your works, but because of Christ’s finished work. Post verses on your mirror or cabinets that will encourage you. Memorize them. Be sure to say them out loud. Scream them in the face of the enemy and remind him he is under your feet because you are in Christ! Jesus Christ made him a defeated foe, a loser. The Spirit of the living God is in you. The One who raised Jesus Christ from the dead is in you.

The One who is undefeatable is in you. So, you are undefeatable!!! Believe it. Say it. Stand on it. And persevere, persevere… See it with your spiritual eyes until you see it with your physical eyes. It may be a suddenly, but often a suddenly follows a period of endurance and perseverance. He is your more than enough, your sufficiency. You are a child of the King, a joint heir with Christ, and the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Don’t ever forget it.

The world’s perspective is rooted in darkness. God’s perspective brings light. Spiritual eyes simply see from heaven’s perspective. I can see more and more physical evidence of Christ’s healing power each week, but until that is complete I will look with my spiritual eyes and believe His Word. He is the author and finisher of my faith. He has a good plan for my life. Because He is with me, I am more than a conqueror. Say it! Say it out loud!

I am thankful for the healing power of Christ Jesus, and grateful, too, for His sustaining power in the journey there.

Abiding in His care, Bebe
