The Privilege of Waiting

God doesn’t waste anything. He says He works all things together for our good, those who love Christ and are called to His purposes.  Sometimes the working together doesn’t look or feel good. But He has promised.

We want what we want, now, but waiting for our answer teaches us so many things. When we recognize our need, we learn dependence. We learn how much we truly need our loving Father, our Provider, our tender Shepherd, our faithful Counselor.

We learn to wait correctly. Waiting on the Lord is not restlessly drumming our fingers, begging Him to hear, while fearing the worst. Waiting on the Lord is filled with hope and expectation. It involves looking with eager anticipation.

    Waiting builds character….

There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit! Romans 5:3-5 MSG

Waiting is a learned discipline. Studying His character, His attributes, His names, along with knowing our identity in Christ, who He says I am, enables our trust to grow. Waiting with confident expectation requires trust. When we know Him, and know who we are to Him, we learn to not doubt His ways. When we know how much He loves us we will learn to trust Him completely.

He doesn’t disappoint. But the Lord does not work on our time schedule. His timing is perfect; He’s never early; He’s never late.

Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of waiting in eager anticipation for Your will to be done, here on earth as it is in heaven, in every matter that concerns me.

In His care, Bebe

God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny. So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.
