Dream Maker

I asked my husband what he said when someone inquired, “What do you do?” His reply, “I’m a commercial builder.” Asking him for more detail, he said, “I take people’s ideas and help them become a reality.” “Wow, so you’re a dream maker.” Now that’s an exciting job!

Tim has a remarkable ability to listen to someone’s ideas about what they would like in a building and show them how to make that happen. His job description was Design/Builder for over 30 years. He has always been able to look at nothing and see something.

He’s taken me outside and described what he wants to accomplish whether building a new deck or creating a beautiful rock border for the landscaping. He can see it! I see “nothing” in front of me. I try hard to imagine it, closing my eyes, but it’s just not there. I trust his abilities and together we make it happen. Once he starts to draw his image on paper, I can begin to envision it. He knows how to make it happen; I see it when I can actually “see” it.

The Lord is an incredible Dream Maker. He has dreams for us; He makes this known in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” He has no limitations on what He can envision or what He can do.

He has equipped us to creatively dream, to reach toward a fulfillment, to follow a plan, to expect, to hope. We may not see how something can possibly come to pass or know how to make it happen, but He does. Don’t be afraid to dream, to have goals. Life circumstances will attempt to get in the way; you can be certain of that. But we are overcomers through Christ Jesus; Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us, Romans 8:37. There have been several periods in my life where circumstances told me that all my dreams were over, to never be fulfilled. But God had other plans! Trust His vision; He knows how to get you to your desired end. And what can you expect? Well, just listen! “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” Ephesians 3:20-21
