A Table Prepared for Me

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  Psalm 23:5

I love that this verse doesn’t depict a sloppy, just enough, last minute provision. The Lord has carefully prepared a feast or banquet that meets our every need. The circumstances which have been referenced earlier in the psalm as the “shadow of death” are still in the picture, but in the background only. The psalmist’s eyes are on the Provider and the Provision; His focus is upward to His Creator, Protector, and Deliverer.

David knows His Shepherd, intimately. David remembers the times his life and the lives of his sheep were threatened, and God made a way, provided the strength in battle, encouraged his heart, and delivered him from his enemies. David is prepared and equipped. He knows the songs he has sung praising his God. Those songs rise in his heart, and he declares the goodness of God in his circumstances.

David has declared that he has no lack because His Shepherd provides everything he needs. His Shepherd feeds and refreshes his soul. He leads him in rightness and truth. He does not fear because he knows the Lord is with him, leading him, guiding him, empowering him.

So, even though the enemies may surround him, David sits at the table the Lord has provided and feasts on His provision, everything he needs. The Word tells us, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 NLT

Delight in the glorious provision of Jesus Christ who has already defeated the enemy. Stand secure in His provision and equipping, no matter what comes.

In His care, Bebe
