My mother was an extraordinarily unique individual, complex, yet profoundly simple. She needed to be loved, accepted, and valued for herself. Isn’t that what we all need? I started writing an article to post about her, but it was soon developing into a book, so I stopped. Suffice it to say, Mother experienced many traumatic events from her birth through adulthood.
Mother laughed mostly with her eyes, but I watched the laughter grow dim. Often she would twirl and swirl, dancing through the house, much to my embarrassment when friends were around, but secretly I loved that about her. She was very expressive; many would say dramatic. But expression faded with fatigue and frailty. Years of physical suffering and heartache took a large toll. She was naturally caring and loving, but giving becomes difficult when you have nothing left to give.
The Lord graciously blessed her with a rejuvenation of sweetness and love her last year of life, washing away all the difficult memories, leaving me with sweet memories of my “mommy” when she left this world.
Recently, I saw a beautiful video of a bride dancing for her “Bridegroom”, Song of Songs, “Dance with me oh Lover of my soul.” I suddenly realized that Mother is again smiling with her eyes, and twirling and swirling as she dances before our Lord and King, her Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. Oh, how the Spirit of God blesses and refreshes our hearts, healing all wounds.
In His care, Bebe
